Current Opportunities

Mechanical Design Engineer - Asset Support (based in Toowoomba, QLD)

Integral to the organisation's core business, the opportunity now exists for a Mechanical Engineer to work closely with RME’s Regional Service Centres to quote, design and deliver equipment updates, and to provide support for major machine overhauls and RME’s in-field Technicians.

Reporting to an Asset Support Engineering Team Leader, and working closely with other members of the Engineering Team and broader RME cohort, in this role you will produce documentation that supports the sustainment and upgrade of RME’s in-service equipment. Such documentation may include commercial offers, finite element analysis (FEA) reports, detailed calculation sheets and engineering reports. You will also design and produce detailed drawings required to progress any given part or assembly from concept to ready for manufacture. Often the first point of contact, you will also be required to respond urgently to situations that affect RME’s Customers’ maintenance shutdowns. Working with legacy designs and data, you must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, often with limited information, to deliver quality outcomes for Customers’ assets.

  • A degree qualification in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering and experience (ideally 2+ years) in a professional engineering environment (ideally manufacturing related)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with a 3D modelling application (preferably SolidWorks) and basic knowledge of material sciences is required
  • Sound knowledge of hydraulic principles and design
  • Demonstrated experience with creating price estimates and quotes for the supply of mechanical equipment/parts and/or engineering services
  • Experience with ERP (ideally MS Dynamics/365) and PLM (ideally PTC Windchill) software would be a distinct advantage
  • Current, or significant progress towards, CPEng/RPEQ accreditation would also be a distinct advantage

Applicants must currently reside, and be permitted to work permanently, in Australia and while all relevant applications are appreciated, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Those who have applied to either Nexus or RME within the last two years need not apply.
